Illustration contest

We are pleased to announce the launch of an illustration/drawing contest open to everyone, with autophagy as the central theme. Hand-drawn illustrations, digital artwork, or any other graphic format are welcome. The submission deadline is set for March 31, 2026. The winning illustration will be used to decorate future T-shirts in the association’s colors.

Travel Grant

The CFATG wishes to award grants throughout the year (contribution to travel/accommodation and registration fees) for PhD or post-doctoral students wishing to present their work on autophagy at conferences.

Juliane Da Graca

2025 Beth Levine PhD Award to Juliane Da Graca

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Juliane Da Graca has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Beth Levine PhD Award!

During her PhD, Juliane explored the role of endoplasmic reticulum–endosome contact sites in the regulation of autophagy, under the supervision of Dr. Étienne Morel at the Institut Necker Enfants Malades (INEM) in Paris. Her work uncovered how these membranes contact sites dynamically organize to create subcellular environments favoring autophagosome formation, thereby providing new insights into the spatial regulation of early autophagy events and their implications in cancer cell adaptation. In addition to her outstanding scientific contributions, Juliane has shown a strong commitment to the autophagy community. From taking part to the 2022 CFATG meeting in Besançon (winning a best oral presentation prize!) to contributing to outreach initiatives, such as creation of a video for our “Boîte à outils” in the CFATG website, she has actively participated in sharing science beyond the bench.

After defending her thesis in November 2024, Juliane joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) as a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Giovanni D’Angelo and Dr. Anne-Laure Mahul-Mellier, where she is now investigating the role of lipids in Parkinson’s disease.

Baptiste Pradel

2024 Beth Levine PhD Award to Baptiste Pradel

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Baptiste Pradel has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Beth Levine PhD Award. During his PhD, Baptiste Pradel demonstrated the crucial role of Atg8ylation in the entry process of HIV-1 in CD4⁺ T cell lymphocytes. His work, supervised by Lucile Espert at IRIM, was recently published in the Autophagy journal. His research revealed a non-canonical role of LC3B conjugation, subverted by HIV-1 to achieve a critical step in its replication cycle. In addition to his scientific discoveries during his PhD, Baptiste Pradel demonstrated exceptional dedication to the autophagy field. He actively participated in numerous national and international autophagy conferences and played a key role in organizing the very first CFATG online seminar in 2021, during the COVID19 pandemic. After defending his thesis, Dr. Baptiste Pradel joined the group led by Max Guttierez at the Francis Crick Institute in London to explore the role of ATGs in the context of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. We are confident that Baptiste will continue to make groundbreaking discoveries in the autophagy field and inspire future generations of researchers.
